Burst Beads Candy: A Buyer's Guide to Probiotic Breath Mints

Time : 2026.10.20 Page View : 4 Author : AGOLYN

Breath freshening candy used to be a checkout-counter afterthought. It is now a pocket format with a defined job: a sugar-free burst bead that freshens breath, delivers an immediate cooling hit, and carries an added probiotic ingredient on the label. This guide is written for buyers sourcing it at volume - retail chains, distributors and private label brands - who need the specification, the label responsibilities and the order mechanics settled before they commit to a container.

Who Buys Burst Beads Candy, and Why

Four buyer groups order this format from us, and each one measures it differently. The product is the same; the reason it sells is not.

Buyer type What they order Why they choose this format
Convenience and forecourt chains 30-cap pocket boxes, display trays High rotation and a small footprint right at the till
Bars, clubs and hospitality Single boxes, counter units Immediate cooling, no residue, no chewing
Private label candy brands Custom box, custom flavor, own branding A proven format that fills a gap next to their mints
Distributors and importers Mixed pallets, container loads One supplier covering both candy and breath care

Sugar-free burst beads in three flavors: mint, lime and white peach.

The pattern behind those four groups is worth noting. The format sells hardest in two conditions: where people need to be close to other people and cannot excuse themselves to brush, and where the till needs a low-price item that is easy to pick up without thinking. That is why forecourt retail and hospitality order continuously while gifting channels order in bursts around holidays, and why the same box can carry very different margins depending on where it sits.

It also explains the flavor split. Mint and lime are functional buys and turn over steadily; white peach sells on impulse and carries better margin in gifting and hospitality. A buyer who stocks only one is usually leaving the other channel to a competitor.

What Private Label Buyers Are Actually Buying

A buyer who has sold mints for years usually arrives with the same brief: the product has to sit in a pocket, work in three seconds, and not compete with the mints already on their shelf. What has changed is the third requirement - the label. Adding a probiotic ingredient turns a simple candy into a product that needs a defensible ingredient statement, and that is where most sourcing problems start.

The split of responsibility is simple and worth putting in writing early. We are responsible for what is inside the bead and for proving it: formula, batch records, certificates and the documents that travel with the container. You are responsible for what is printed on the box and for the claims made in your market. We will supply the technical wording you need, but the final claim sits with the brand owner.

Practical note: we do not write disease, treatment or health claims on any artwork we produce, and we will decline artwork that contains them. If your market allows a specific wording, send us the reference and we will set the label to match it exactly.

Formats and Packaging

The standard build is a 30-cap pocket box measuring 7 x 3 cm, which is the size that fits a jeans pocket and a till display at the same time. Everything below the box line is adjustable within reasonable tooling limits.

Item Standard Adjustable
Caps per box 30 20 to 40
Box size 7 x 3 cm pocket box Shorter or longer body, window or solid front
Display unit Counter display tray Tray count and header card
Outer carton Export carton, palletisable Pallet pattern, mixed cartons
Label English Multi-language panel, market-specific nutrition table
Burst beads candy packaging range: pocket box, display tray and export carton
Pocket box, counter display and export carton - all built around the same 7 x 3 cm body.

The Five Levers You Can Adjust

Most sourcing conversations come down to five variables. Each one changes cost, lead time or stability, and buyers usually over-specify two of them without realising what it does to the price.

Lever Range What it changes
Flavor Mint, lime, white peach, or a custom profile Custom profiles need a development round and a higher minimum
Cooling level Mild, medium, strong Stronger cooling reads better in blind tests but narrows the audience
Burst intensity Light to pronounced A heavier core raises cost and shortens the comfortable shelf window
Sweetener system Sugar-free polyol blend Determines the nutrition panel and the sugar-free wording you can use
Probiotic inclusion Yes or no, strain on record Adds documentation requirements and a viability test before release
Cross section of a burst bead showing the liquid core inside the shell
The burst comes from the core, not from the shell - which is why core weight drives both cost and shelf behaviour.

Claims and Label Responsibility by Market

This is the section most buyers skim and later regret. The same box cannot carry the same words in every market, and the probiotic line is the one that causes the most reprints.

Market What is normally acceptable What we will not print
United States Sugar-free wording when the nutrition panel qualifies; probiotics listed as an ingredient Digestive or immune claims
European Union Sugar-free wording under the nutrition claims rules; ingredient naming for cultures Any probiotic health claim, authorised or implied
Middle East and Southeast Asia Halal mark plus market-specific nutrition panel Unverified halal marks from third parties

Where a claim is unclear, the safe wording is factual and narrow: state the ingredient, not the outcome. "With added probiotics" is an ingredient statement. "Supports digestive health" is a health claim and belongs to a different regulatory conversation entirely.

Documents and Quality Control

A clean container is decided long before loading. These are the documents that come with every order, and the ones we need back from you before artwork is released.

What we provide

  • Certificate of analysis for the finished batch, including moisture and microbiological results
  • Product specification sheet with cap diameter, fill weight and tolerance per box
  • Halal certificate and allergen statement
  • Shelf-life study summary and storage instruction wording
  • Artwork proof with die lines, plus a pre-production sample before the run
  • Loading photos and container seal number on the day of shipment

What we need from you

  • Target market and the claim wording you intend to use
  • Label dimensions, barcode and importer details
  • Whether a probiotic strain document is required by your buyer
  • Any retail-specific packaging rule, such as a hanging hole or a shelf-ready tray

How an Order Runs

A first order usually moves through six steps. The two that take the longest are artwork and the pre-production sample, so both are worth starting early.

  1. Brief. Market, volume, flavor direction and claim wording.
  2. Sample. Stock flavor samples go out first so the cooling and burst level can be judged in person.
  3. Artwork. We prepare the die line and a proof; your team signs off on every panel.
  4. Pre-production sample. One finished box from the actual run, checked against the spec sheet.
  5. Production and inspection. Batch record, COA and loading photos before the container is sealed.
  6. Shipping documents. Commercial invoice, packing list, health certificate and certificate of origin as required.

MOQ, Lead Time and Samples

Minimum order quantity depends on how far the build moves from standard. Stock flavors in the standard box start at a mixed-pallet volume and can be combined across mint, lime and white peach. Custom flavor or a new box die moves the minimum up, because both require a dedicated run and a new print setup.

Lead time is quoted per order rather than published as a fixed number, since artwork rounds and print queues vary. Samples of stock flavors are free; you cover the courier. Custom flavor samples carry a development charge that is credited back against the first production order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is burst beads candy the same as chewing gum?

No. There is no gum base in the product. It is a sugar-free candy with a liquid core that releases when bitten, so it is chewed for a few seconds and then dissolves.

Is it sugar-free in every market?

The formula contains no added sugar and is built on a polyol blend, but the sugar-free wording on the pack must match the nutrition panel required in your market. We confirm the panel with you before print.

How is the probiotic handled on the label?

It is declared as an added ingredient. We supply the strain name and a viability result for the batch. We do not print health claims, and we do not recommend wording that implies a health outcome.

Can the box design be fully customized?

Print, finish and window options are open on the standard 7 x 3 cm body without new tooling. A different body shape needs a new die and a higher minimum order.

How should the product be stored in a hot climate?

Keep the cartons below 25 C and out of direct sun. Sustained heat softens the shell and the burst weakens, which is why we ship in insulated liners for summer routes on request.

Is the product halal certified?

Yes, halal certification is in place and the certificate travels with the shipping documents. A copy is available on request before you place an order.

Judging a burst bead from a photo is not possible

Ask for the sample kit: three flavors, one finished box and the spec sheet that goes with it.
